Developmental Milestones

Social and Emotional

How your child starts to understand who she is and what she is feeling is at the heart of social-emotional wellness. Children’s social-emotional development influences all other areas of development which are all greatly affected by how a child feels about herself and how she is able to express ideas and emotions. They contribute to a child’s self-confidence and empathy, her ability to develop meaningful and lasting friendships and partnerships, and her sense of importance and value to those around her.

Social and Emotional Skills

Healthy social-emotional development includes the ability to:

  • Form and sustain positive relationships
  • Experience, manage, and express emotions
  • Explore and engage with the environment

As children develop social-emotional skills they are also more able to:

  • Express their ideas and feelings
  • Display empathy towards others
  • Manage their feelings of frustration and disappointment more easily
  • Feel self-confident
  • More easily make and develop friendships
  • Succeed in school

Your Child's EQ

How your child learns is as important as what they learn.  How your child feels impacts learning significantly.  You may have heard the term “emotional intelligence.” Emotional intelligence, or emotional quotient (EQ) is a “person’s ability to identify, evaluate, control and express emotions.” It helps us communicate with others, negotiate situations and develop clear thought patterns. The Helen Doron Kindergarten programme takes this into account throughout the school day. The physical learning environment, activities with teachers, classmates and self-directed activities are all carefully orchestrated to help your child to reach his or her full developmental potential.

Helen Doron Kindergartens understand that a child’s social and emotional development is an integral part of  the learning environment.
